“THE ROUTES OF ARTISTIC CRAFTSMANSHIP IN SALENTO”

WHERE WE ARE

Guided tours of the beauties of Salento's artistic craftsmanship, with 2- or 3-day packages, valid for groups of 8 or 15 people.

LecceA cultural tour with a guide through its gates, into the heart of the Baroque, which finds its highest expression in this city. The colors of Lecce stone blend with the artistic history of the churches, cathedrals, and palaces; here, every place and alley tells a story, its own history.

The journey begins at Porta Napoli, along Via Palmieri, where history speaks: in a single street, distant eras and cultures meet: from the Messapian and Aragonese Lecce, to the splendid vestiges of 19th-century buildings. At the end of the street, Piazza Duomo suddenly opens up, a triumph of Baroque, overlooked by the Cathedral, the Bishop's Palace, and the Seminary building.

Piazza Sant'Oronzo, the main square, is home to the Sedile, a unique building erected in 1592 as an audience and meeting hall, and the imposing Roman Amphitheater. The symbol of this square, however, remains the Column dedicated to the patron saint, which some believe was erected on the site where Saint Oronzo was beheaded. Not far from this square is the Castle of Charles V. Just a few dozen meters from Piazza Sant'Oronzo, the majestic Baroque façade of the Church of Santa Croce suddenly appears in a small square, with its splendid rose window at its center. It is considered one of the finest examples of Lecce Baroque architecture.

Galatina: elected "City of Art" in 2004. Inside, testimonies of Greek and Latin culture coexist, as well as ancient traditions linked to the cult of the tarantula bite (a tradition between the sacred and the profane, which came to life on the occasion of the feast of Saints Peter and Paul, in the small chapel dedicated to the latter, where from a well, still present today, the "bitten" women drank the water that would heal them).

The historic center is characterized by cobbled alleys, noble palaces, and courtyard houses. Visit the Church of Santa Caterina: built in 1391, it houses interesting frescoes covering almost every surface of the walls and vaults.

Gallipoli, “Kalè Polis”, “Beautiful City”, which fascinates with the colours and smells of the south.
Once you cross the bridge, which divides the commercial and noisy Gallipoli, you find yourself in the old city, a small, large island whose alleys protect and hide immense treasures: baroque facades, the façades of stately buildings, courtyard houses, countless and splendid churches, all strictly overlooking the sea, as if "invoking a mysterious God of the water to protect their city."

Of particular interest are the Cathedral of Sant'Agata, known as an "art gallery"; the Church of San Francesco, known as the "Gallipoli Pantheon" for the numerous works it houses; the 17th-century Church of Santa Maria della Purità, the oldest in Gallipoli; the Greek Fountain; the Museum, and one of the 35 underground oil mills, which in the 19th century produced lampante oil exported throughout Europe.
